Fall Break

On Friday, we went to Greenville for dental appointments and decided to check out the new Children's Museum while we were there. We only got to see the top 2 floors (because Booseum was going on down on the bottom floor) but there was still plenty to see and lots of fun activities for the children to try...
wind tunnels, paper airplanes, race car driving...

grocery store with cash registers that scan,

climbing the rock wall that looks out at downtown Greenville

the pulley chairs

and working the crane in the construction zone.
-----
On Saturday, (even though it started off a little bit soggy) - we head to Aiken for the Fall Steeplechase. We had a railside parking spot and are always up for a tailgate. The kids participated in the stick horse races and played a bunch a games in the kid's area. We made a few friendly bets during the 6 races but none of us were very lucky when it came to picking the winners! Good thing there was no actually money involved. And as you can tell by the pictures, the sun came out and it turned out to be a beautiful day at the races.

Speaking of races...we raced home to watch the Clemson game! And what a great game it was! But this is how the kids watched the end of the game and the OT. We tried to wake them up but they were just too tired!

-----
On Sunday, we went to the pumpkin patch, made a homemade apple pie, and carved jack-o-lanterns...

Happy Fall!!!!

our beautiful apple pie (that neither of the kids would eat!)
The kids thought the best part of making the pie was using the apple peeler/corer/slicer.

We let the kids been in charge of a lot more this year during the pumpkin carving. The adults helped with some of the cutting but the kids were responsible for all of the "gutting" and "design work".

They were so proud of their jack-o-lanterns!!!

On Monday, we ate lunch with Jeff, ran errands, and basically did all the things we had been putting off all weekend in favor of FAMILY FUN!!!

Apple Picking with Brownies

The girls spent the weekend picking apples with Molly's Brownie troop (the boys stay in North Augusta and worked and played soccer). Friday after school, we headed to Spartanburg and "camped out" at a Girl Scout facility - it was basically a big room with lots of space for air mattresses, a kitchen & bathroom facilities. (I didn't know that there are Girl Scout facilities all over that troops can use for little to no cost.) And on Saturday, we headed up to Flat Rock, NC to pick apples at Sky Top Orchard. It was a little rainier and colder than we expected, but I guess Girl Scouts just put a smile on their faces and keep going.

We picked Fuji, Pink Lady, Rome, & Arkansas Black apples.
We also picked up a couple of Granny Smith and Golden Delicious in the store.

Brownies are always willing to lend a helping hand!!

On the way home, we detoured through Greenville to...
-hang out with Mom/Muv
-eat dinner with Aunt Boo & Jennifer
(to celebrate Jennifer's birthday!)
-eat breakfast with friends from college who were
in town for the Clemson game

It was a great weekend! Maybe next time the weather will be a little bit warmer and we will have a little more time to visit with family and friends.

Steve Martin Concert

Steve Martin...comedian, actor, author, banjo player (?) and relative (?!) - was in concert last weekend at Chastain Park in Atlanta. So, just a few of us got together for an evening of good company, good food and good music. Steve's wife - Anne - is standing behind me and EVERYONE in this picture is related to her by blood or marriage. (And the usual 3 are missing from this picture - Jeff, my dad and Uncle Jim.)

In this picture are me, my mom, 2 sisters, 1 brother-in-law, 4 aunts, 3 uncles, 3 cousins and one of my cousin's wife and another cousin's husband (Steve)! We had a great time and is was sweet of Anne to take us ALL backstage after the concert to meet her husband. Maybe next year he will come to the family reunion since he has already meet about 1/3 of the family!

* And a special thanks to Granna & Gramps for taking the kids to the beach a day early so that we could go to the concert!!
