Girls Weekend

It was just us girls this weekend and we had a blast! On Saturday, we ate lunch at Wild Wings so that we could watch a little of the Clemson game and went shopping (Kohl's & Target). We went back to the car periodically so that we could catch up on the game and made it home for the last couple of minutes. Molly had a friend from school spend the night. We had a fancy dinner (a table cloth and candles with our hot dogs & mac-n-cheese) and they watched movies in the bonus room - High School Musical 2 & Camp Rock. On Sunday, we had pancakes for breakfast and then baked (funfetti) cupcakes. After her friend left, we hung out with the painter (he was painting Molly & Carson's rooms) and sampled a few of those cupcakes. We surprised the boys by spreading (most of) their pine straw and then went for a walk (me) / bike ride (Molly) on the Greeneway. It was a beautiful day to be outside!

Boys Weekend

The boys woke up early on Saturday so that they could head up to Clemson for the game. They set up their tailgate at The Parking Spot and then headed over to the first ever "Tiger Walk". The both said that the "Tiger Walk" was great and that they hoped it would become a new tradition at Clemson. They enjoyed their day of tailgating with friends, watching the game, and hanging out "just the boys." They spent the night "camping" at the lake house in Anderson (sleeping bags on top of the beds so that they wouldn't have to make up the beds). They said you could practically walk across the cove right now because the water is so low. On Sunday morning, they packed up and headed to the big city of McCormick for a round of golf at Hickory Knob State Park. They had a great time and Carson even parred the 13th hole - a 95 yard par 3! Way to go Carson!

pumpkin time & a sick kid...

So, tell me - does Carson look sick in this picture? Believe it or not, he is. Ran a little bit of a fever yesterday afternoon and just wasn't acting like himself (read - much quieter than usual). And woke up today feeling the same. I actually took him to the doctor and got every mom's least favorite diagnosis - a fever caused by a virus. I'm thankful it wasn't anything like strep, a sinus infection or the flu but I hate that there is nothing you can do but let it run it's course. He had his ups and downs today and hopefully he'll be back to normal by the weekend. He and Jeff are supposed to have a boys weekend - football & golf!

After we picked Molly up from school and took Carson to the doctor, we stopped by the pumpkin patch. More pictures to come when we carve these perfect pumpkins into fabulous
jack-o-lanterns...

first field trip of the school year...

Carson's class went to Communigraphics yesterday. They got to apply their names to the class sign and "help" screenprint a class t-shirt to wear on all of their future field trips. They had a lot of fun. But the highlight for many was riding on the big yellow school bus for the first time.

a weekend in the mountains

then (April 18, 1997) & now (October 4, 2008)
-
For our 10 year anniversary, we spent a glorious weekend in the mountains (read no kids and absolutely beautiful weather). Back then we always stayed at the Brockwell's mountain house in Sky Valley and this time we stayed at a Dillard House Chalet. http://www.dillardhouse.com/
So much was the same yet different...
-
We drove down to the water fall at Sky Valley and took a few pictures. Then we hiked to the top of Rabun Bald (the 2nd highest point in GA) - and the site of our engagement way back when. The view was spectacular and well worth the hike and it was great to remember the last time we had been there. After our hike, we ate lunch and shopped around in Highlands. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing with a couple of cold drinks, a good book (Amy) and some college football on TV (Jeff). For dinner we enjoyed a family style dinner at the Dillard House. We should have taken a picture of all the food on our table - so many bowls that they barely fit! And no trip to Sky Valley would be complete without a round of golf. All I can say about the golf is that the weather was nice (cool for early October), the company splendid and my game got (a little) better as the round went on.

Maybe next time, we'll take the kids...
